Overview of NeoBudget

View an account summary

This snapshot view lets you see all your envelopes on a single page with a label and balance on each. Your spending categories are organized and displayed in virtual envelopes. This maintains the psychological benefit of the envelope method of budgeting, without having to manage physical envelopes and cash. The summary page lets you quickly glance over all your envelopes and see where you stand in each spending category.

Import from your bank

There is no need to manually enter each transaction into NeoBudget. We have developed a simple 4-step process for importing transactions from your bank into NeoBudget. This can save hours of manual entry, and reduces the possibilty of human error.

"Essentially, you figure out how to allocate your paycheck once, and never have to think about it again."

Manage your income and set goals

One of the most useful features of NeoBudget is how it can manage your income. You can enter all your sources of regular income, and specify how much you get for each paycheck. Then your income can be allocated into envelopes. For instance, you can say 20% of each paycheck goes into an envelope labeled "Savings" and $150 from each paycheck goes into "Groceries."

This is combined with goals. You set a goal to spend $300 each month on groceries. NeoBudget will help you spread this goal across your paychecks so the envelope will be fully funded every month. In this case, you might take $150 out of each paycheck if you are paid twice per month.

Now comes the best part. When you are importing your transactions and you come across a paycheck, you simply select it from the list of incomes you have already set up. That money will automatically be spread across your envelopes. Essentially, you figure out how to allocate your paycheck once, and never have to think about it again.

Browse past transactions

All of your transactions are saved so you can view them later. When you click on an envelope, all the transactions in that envelope are listed. Each transaction shows how much money was deducted from this envelope, and how much was deducted from all other envelopes (if the transaction spans multiple envelopes). The type of transaction is also displayed so you can see if this was a check, or if you used your debit card. Any notes you wrote about a transaction will also be displayed here to help you remember specific details.

Split transactions across envelopes

When entering transactions into NeoBudget, you can split the amount among multiple envelopes. For example, if you went shopping at Wal-Mart and spent $25, you can take $10 from your "Clothing" envelope, and $15 from your "Groceries" envelope. You can specify the type of transaction (a deposit, income from a paycheck, debit, charge, or check), and write notes to yourself about the transaction.

Debt repayment worksheet

Another feature of NeoBudget is the debt repayment worksheet. You can enter all your credit card balances, car loans, and student loans and have NeoBudget calculate a schedule for becoming debt-free. By adjusting the monthly payment, you can see how much faster you can repay all debt by just paying $100/month more. You can also see how much interest you will pay in total.
