Budget for 2 paychecks a month If you get paid every two weeks, an excellent way to spend less than you make is to budget for two paychecks per month. Every year you will earn 26 paychecks, but if you budget for two paychecks per month you'll only account for 24 paychecks. This means that every six months you'll get a bonus paycheck that you can use for whatever you want.
I've done this for years, and it's fantastic. It's like giving myself a bonus every six months. Usually I will use this extra check to help build up any envelopes in which I have overspent, or use it to pay off debt. This month is my extra paycheck month because it has five Fridays. This time, I'm using it to pay for a weekend trip to San Francisco to visit some friends. Other budget tips:
